About

My private practice as a singing teacher and performance coach in and around Cambridge is based on my years of professional singing performance as a mezzo-soprano, as well as my own vocal training and long experience as a voice teacher.

I offer private, one-to-one singing lessons at my home, as well as vocal masterclasses in performance during term time in or near Cambridge. I am the founder and director of the Lucy Cavendish Singers.

Katharina is one of the most admirable musicians I have met in my professional musical life. She always serves the music in a most sincere way in all aspects of her work.

Biography

After completing a Bachelor of Music with distinction in the Voice/Opera Department at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, I toured as a mezzo-soprano soloist with the Edmonton and Calgary Opera Associations’ ‘Opera in Schools’ programme. Following two years at the Mozarteum Sommerakademie in Salzburg, where students were given daily opportunities to work with international singing coaches and directors, I sang my first professional role with Edmonton Opera.

Further roles followed with the Calgary, Winnipeg and Vancouver Opera Companies. Chosen along with seven other young singers from across Canada to join the Canadian Opera Company’s young artists’ programme in Toronto, I sang principal mezzo-soprano roles in touring and main-stage productions. I have performed as a lead soloist in the Stratford Festival and with the Symphony Orchestras of Edmonton, Toronto and Chicago and in the title role of Carmen in Peter Brook’s acclaimed Broadway production at the Vivien Beaumont Theatre, Lincoln Centre, New York. Some images from these productions can be found on this page.

After moving to the UK, I obtained an MA and MPhil from the University of Cambridge. I started my private teaching practice here in 2001 and founded the Lucy Cavendish Singers chamber choir in 2008. With pianist Ilga Pitkevica, I enjoy giving recitals of German, Spanish, French and Italian repertoire.
