Katharina Megli

Cambridge Singing Teacher    Performance Coach    Choral Director

‘Katharina is a passionate and devoted teacher. She approaches the voice from a singer’s perspective, so that the student thinks of it in terms of a physical sensation rather than a specific sound they are aiming to achieve.

She demands nothing but the best whilst also being encouraging and helping you to overcome any insecurities and fears. Whilst I have mainly focused on classical singing, I have also been able to work on different musical genres during my lessons such as French chanson and jazz pieces.

Every lesson is different and I always look forward to the next one. This year has been such a rewarding journey for me as I have been steadily exploring my voice and have already found a whole new dimension to it; I am very excited about what is left to discover!'  Noémie Johns  (soprano)

‘Working with Katharina has been a revelation. Through her teaching my voice has transformed and continues to transform. She is a consummate musician and highly professional in her approach.  Katharina’s extensive experience as a performer and choir director enhance her teaching. She brings wisdom and insight to her work.

She is able to teach the many principles of good singing with immense care so that they are tailored to the individual. All of this is achieved with her encouragement and a light touch, making lessons challenging and fun. Katharina is passionate about what she does and lessons with her heighten the joy of singing.’     Lucy Bunce  (voice and harp)

‘I took classes under Katharina for two and a half  years while studying toward a PhD at the University of Cambridge. I had before that studied classical singing in Finland at the conservatories of Turku and Helsinki. Katharina immediately detected certain fundamental problems with my technique that we then set out to remedy.  My singing is now considerably less strained, and I can easily get through lengthy songs that used to make me feel exhausted toward the end.

One fun aspect of Katharina’s teaching is the master classes, which involve performing for other students. This gives you stage experience; it’s also reassuring to see other people struggle with the same issues you do. We once performed a whole opera scene with two other students, which was really a lot of fun!’    Visa Kurki  (bass-baritone)

‘I have been studying with Katharina for about a year, after a long hiatus from singing, and she is definitely the best singing teacher l have ever had. With her experience she can explain and clarify the vagaries of technique that a lot of singing teachers just allude to. If you are willing to put in the practice, her teaching will definitely bear results.’     Karl (tenor)
